Dental Care

Pets Need Dental Care Too: For most of us, caring for our teeth and gums has been a part of our daily routine for as long as we can remember. Just like you, pets need dental care too.

In order to keep your pet's mouth healthy, Wellness Care Specialists recommend regular professional care from your veterinarian.

Causes of Periodontal Disease: Plaque is a colorless film that contains large amounts of bacteria. If left unchecked, plaque builds up creating infection, destroying gums and resulting in the loss of the tissues and bone that support the teeth. In some cases, tooth loss and even organ failure may occur. Studies have shown that 80% of medical problems in dogs are dental problems.

Preventing Periodontal Disease: Professional dental treatment performed under general anesthesia is the cornerstone of preventive dental health for our patients. On average, dogs and cats benefit from prophylaxis starting at age three years, but each patient should have an individualized dental program. Every pet will benefit from a yearly dental cleaning and oral examination.
